Do you sometimes get ex-students turning up to visit you and to give you feedback on your lessons? Or just tell you that they appreciated what you did, and that they want to say "thank you"? That they fared well with what they learned, and that it helped them to make their way abroad?
Have you ever changed something because of their feedback?
Have you ever had one of your ex-student come into a class of current students, and tell them what things are like once you're out of school?
Today, an ex-student of mine turned up and said that in an argument 12 years ago, he had been wrong, and life itself had supplied an answer to the question I couldn't answer to his satisfaction back then. Today he's a businessman, a husband and a father-to-be, and his dreams have largely come true.
It was uplifting, in a way, because I felt that little as it may have been, I have contributed to him getting where he is. And that's great.
