Teaching Biology to ESL students

I was wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with teaching sciences (specifically Biology) to ESL students. I am currently in an ESL program, and I understand that I may encounter students who have limited English proficiency. I am just trying to wrap my head around teaching difficult concepts to students who speak no or little English. Thanks!

Seek out children's trade books/ tap into your local library

Although you are teaching older students, don't be afraid to use children's science trade books to at least introduce vocabulary. I am blessed to live near my metropolitan library where there is a wonderful children's section and staff to accompany it. The staff has eagerly helped me find appropriate selections that, consequently, are not "childish."
