Have you ever been threatened by a student?

Post by Morgoth » Fri May 14, 2004 3:52 am

Hi, I teach in a middle school in China. I have found out that some of the Chinese - English teachers have been threatened or even attacked by students. They have told me that the Headmasters will not do anything about the students and insist that the teachers continue to teach the class. Some are in tears they are so afraid to teach the class.

Now fortunately I have a good raport with my students, I have an open door policy with them and they know it. But I can't help but worry, what if this situation happens to me? I have discussed this with my boss here and she says that if it does happen that I should talk to the headmaster. But now I have to wonder if that will do any good. I told her that I do not start fights with students (I never lift a finger to ANYONE I teach), but if such a situation happens I will defend myself.

Has anyone had this happen to them? I have heard about this but I only thought it a rumor and never gave it any credit.

ANY input on this is welcome.
