essay contests - sources? websites?

Post by zellturtle » Sat Jan 27, 2007 3:19 pm

I teach in the public school system in Bulgaria and one of my 8th graders is just brilliant at English. Her level is way above the rest of the class and she has even asked for extra work - she is very motivated. I thought instead of coming up with my own topics to have her write essays, stories, plays etc i could get her interested in participating in some kind of contest, especially something international. winning wouldn't be the point, it would be more to be doing something different and getting used to working with a deadline. any ideas on websites or other good sources that list these kinds of opportunities? a google search didn't turn up much

thanks
