Teaching writing in ESL/assessing student writing

Post by annchar » Mon Nov 17, 2003 1:23 am

I am new to teaching in an ESL classroom and need input on methods for teaching writing. Also any ways in which you assess student writing. What classroom techniques have worked for you and what didn't? What are the biggest hurdles for the students? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks

Why don't you try six trait writing. That's what my school uses for all students. The focus isn't just on the penmanship, spelling and grammer. The use of voice (is it interesting), vocabulary, ideas, nd organization. You can use books on this to help teach writing, also.
