How to discipline the students in the class?

Recently, I found that it was very difficult for teachers to control the students in the class.
Last week, I went to a training school to listen to the teachers’ classes. The students in their class were primary school students from 7 to 10 years old. I found the class was in chaos, boys were always talking and shouted in the class. The teachers told the boys not to talk in the class but they did not obey. So at last, the teacher asked the boy to stand in front of the class and then the boy stopped talking. So I was wondering whether it is the only way for teachers to let students stand in front of the class in order to discipline the students? Do we have other ways to control the students especially when the students are in primary school?

I think it is an effective way to ask the students to stand in front of the class, because they are often naughty in the class. But at the same time, teachers should notice the reaction of the students. Not all the boys could take this punishment.

If talking in class is the only problem, you could try changing the seating chart. Whatever you do, you need to be conisitent. You could take away privaleges, like recess.
