I'm an English teacher form Poland, teaching students aged 16-19. I would like to find a group of schools from all over the world to get involved in project work. The way I see it is: before the beginning of each semester the teachers responsible for the project agree on a subject (let's say: Christmas, eating habits, holidays, teenage culture, animal rights, national stereotypes - or dozens of others). Students work on the subject from their local point of view, and at the end of the semester they send their findings to other schools participating in the project. The projects could be Power Point presentations, sent with any additional materials by post.
As a post-project activity teachers may prepare a kind of test or quiz to check how much the students have learnt.
The idea behind is to motivate students to learning English, to broaden their knowledge about the variety of culture and customs all over the world, to make them more open and tolerant, to help them find friends all over the world.
If you like the idea, please contact me. We could devote the forthcoming semester for organising the group and getting to know each other, and start serious work from September 2004.

I am also an English teacher at the secondary school in Slovenia teaching the population of approximately the same age (15-20). Your idea seems interesting. My students (around 40 of them) are involved in the project work every year. Namely, I assign them with 15-minute presentations on various topics. Each of them has to hand in an outline, then conduct
a presentation, and afterwards they make a poster on their topics.
They acquire a grade after completing all three stages. I've been doing this for 2 years, and it's a lot of fun for me and my students. Some of their presentations were superb. Maybe we could join your project with our presentations.

Would you mind sending me the same details? My students in Japan might be interested in this type of project.

I'm thinking of carrying out a project work in my esl class. The students are about 16 years old. They are a group of students who learn English in the classroom and seldom expose to natural English. I would like to motivate them in learning English by doing projects. Pls share with me the ways and the experience. Thank you.
