Pronunciation Software

Post by rachel » Wed Mar 05, 2003 6:15 pm

Hello. I´m new to this forum. I´m trying to develop a new software for pronunciation for english as a second language students. I realize there is existing software, including pronunciation power 1 and 2. Does anybody know what other software exists that is really good for students? Also is there any existing software that not only corrects you, but has a percentage or points system to let the student know how well he or she is doing with pronunciation? Also are there any good websites you could direct me to?

TeLL me More software developped by Auralog can be good to take a look at www.auralog.com
They were the first in the world to use speech recognition for language software.
Their software is very complete (speaking, writing, gramar, vocabulary,..) but based on speech recognition,
Their pronunciation capability is very advanced. After you talk and record your voice (trying to follow the model), it tells you how well you did from a scale of 1 to 7 points (you pass if you achieve a certain score). They also have an exclusive Speaking Error Tracking System that tells you which word you did not pronounce correctly, so you can correct your errors.
Ask for a free demo CD at [email protected]
Hope that helps.

Want to teach pronunciation? Use the software EyeSpeak

Post by sophie » Mon Jun 21, 2004 2:00 am

Hi! I'm replying to an old message, but why not? The information below could still be useful to many readers...
EyeSpeak is a unique software that teaches pronunciation using speech recognition. When students log in, they have to register their gender and their country of origin. The software analyses the students' voice and give them personalised feedback, based on what the students said. This is where EyeSpeak is unique, as each student will have a different pronunciation and each feedback will be given based on the students' specific pronunciation. That is why it is important to register your country of origin (e.g. Chinese students have problems with "R", German students with "TH"): when registering, the software gives you a personalised lesson plan to target the problem areas.
This feedback is given by a graph that plots the position of your tongue inside your mouth and compares it to that of your tutor. Also, the software tells you (with words) how to improve your pronunciation by changing the position of your tongue in your mouth (e.g. foward and up). Data is saved and students can check their progress when they want. A score is given for each attempt. This is real speech recognition (the software analyses the students' voice to give feedback), as opposed to Auralog's products using waveforms. Waveforms give a picture of the word, and students have to match the picture of the tutor. There is no personalised feedback. This system is not as accurate as it does not take into account other factors (e.g. pitch) - for instance, a student could pronounce a word properly but if the student's pitch is not the same as the tutor's, the pronunciation will be considered wrong.
I think EyeSpeak offers a lot more possibilities than other products. If you're getting good at it, you can also increase the difficulty level with EyeSpeak or even learn a new accent - several accents are available (American English, British English etc). If you want more information, go to http://www.eyespeak.info
Bye,
Sophie

I like to introduce my English pronunciation software to you

Post by Pronunci » Thu Apr 21, 2005 7:31 pm

Hi,

I am an MBA student of class 2005 at Carnegie Mellon University. I have developed a pronunciation software, Pronunciation Patterns, to help others learn, improve, and perfect English pronunciation because I couldn't find any pronunciation software to help me remember correct pronunciation and to provide enough words to help me correct all of my mispronunciation. Through learning and correcting pronunciation myself, I decided to create a pronunciation software not only help people learn pronunciation, but also correct, improve, and perfect their pronunciation.

You can learn more about Pronunciation Patterns and how my customers like my solution at www.PronunciationPatterns.com
