Free software in exchange for testing

Post by nhelman » Wed Sep 15, 2004 12:16 pm

Create board games as interactive learning tools

I have created software, called BoardBOSS, for designing and playing board games on Windows computers. The software is nearly complete, and I am seeking beta testers to prove that no fatal flaws exist.

The idea behind BoardBOSS is to give you flexibility and control. You can use any JPG, GIF, or BMP for your game board (I'm including a handful of game boards to get you started), and choose from among several fonts and several types of game music.

Most importantly for teaching ESL, though, is that most BoardBOSS board games are based on game cards - like Trivial Pursuit - with each card containing a question and up to four answers (one of which must be right, of course). You can create games targeted to specific topics or to provide practice in particular issues students may have in reading. You can even have students create games to give them practice in writing (or spoken communication if you have small groups working together).

If you would be interested in examining BoardBOSS, please visit http://www.boardboss.biz/teachers/index.html. In exchange for testing, you will receive a free registration key for the software upon its release for commercial sale. I request that you spend at least six hours testing the software, and provide me with a commentary about your experience of the software. Of course, if you do run into problems will using BoardBOSS or the Player, you can send me your error logs from within the software.

Your free registration will entitle you to upload games you or your students have created to be included in my online game catalog, so other ESL teachers may benefit. In addition, you will be eligible for a 20% referral fee (see http://www.boardboss.biz/referrals.html for details) and a monthly $50 contest (see http://www.boardboss.biz/contest.html for details).

Please visit http://www.boardboss.biz/betatesters.html for details about the beta testing program, and the submit a request to participate in the program.

Thanks,
Neal
