New book on teaching foreign languages to deaf students

Post by Judith Mole » Sat Dec 31, 2005 11:14 am

Thought you guys might be interested in a new book which has just been published called 'Deaf and Multilingual - a practical guide to teaching and supporting deaf learners in foreign language classes'.

It looks in detail at aspects of deafness and how these can affect foreign language learning, planning courses and lessons to ensure inclusion, how support workers and classroom assistants can help, as well as a detailed analysis of different situations learners might face in a language classroom and how problems can be minimised. The book also contains case studies of deaf students learning English as a foreign language.

Thanks for the great information! Right now, our high school offers ASL as a foreign language option, so that's what our Deaf students take, but it would be interesting to guide them in another way if they wanted to. Thanks for the post!
