Online texts

Digital texts are great, but we have to keep in mind that on the internet, authorship is not something that seems to be respected. Plagiarism plagues many online resources. It’s not something we have to deal with when we rely on regular school books. We have to be really careful about this phenomenon and the first step is to teach students to respect the work of others. Once this value is integrated, then digital texts can be used.

I also agree with the fact that since students are constantly dealing with a great amount of information and interesting texts through technology, we have to provide them texts that are as interesting and even more than those they read online. Digital texts could be a mean to motivate the students and grab their interests as the material provided is linked to something they are comfortable with and that is interesting for them. However, using digital texts all the time is quite difficult because some schools do not have the required technology to do it. Therefore, I don’t think that we can put away the traditions textbooks. Textbooks and printed texts will still be a part of our teaching although it can happen that we won't need them anymore in the future . However, for the moment, we can try to find textbooks or printed texts that underlie students' interests and that provide them the same intellectual stimulation as what they can find online.
