TOEFL iBT - What is it like?

Post by Vincent » Thu Sep 29, 2005 10:12 pm

ETS just released the TOEFL iBT here in North America and we are curious to know how the launch went. I am in Vancouver, Canada, and we won't be seeing the iBT until late October.

Any teachers or students in the US that have seen the actual TOEFL iBT? How does it compare with the ETS online demo? I am very curious to know whether there are any bugs in there iBT process.

We also read on the ETS site that the preliminary launch dates have been set for international sites:

Oct/05: Canada, France, Germany, Italy

March/06: Africa, Europe, Middle East

April/06: India, Hong Kong, Taiwan

May/06: China, Japan, Republic of Korea

Note that on the ETS document, they are careful to emphasize that these are the EARLIEST possible dates, so there is definitely the possibility of delays for 2006.

Regards,
Vincent :D
