sorry couldn't find a suitable forum for this question

i am teaching a 16 year old the IELTS material and the reading seems a little unsuitable for him in terms of topic, rather than language level

does anyone know if there is an IELTS exam aimed at the younger age group

Cambridge FCE and PET are easier than IELTS, and more suitable for teenagers in terms of topic content. They're also part of the same "exam suite", which means they have similar task styles and rubrics. Basically, using PET and then FCE is an excellent building process for eventual IELTS preparation.
