I will be soon be teaching a course about the TV show MASH. I think the cultural aspect of this program, plus the different tones of each sub-plot in each episode would make for an interesting and thought-provoking course. So, as anyone done anything like this before? What things should I watch out for?

It would be helpful to keep in mind that the TV show had little to do with the Korean War.

I have done similar things using TV shows in the classroom, I used Three's company and Friend's, you don't realize how much slang they use, learn as you go they will ask interesting questions, I found out I learned about my culture, things we know to be normail, students ask why? why?

one thing I recall was they thought it was funny when they wore skimpy clothes....also for each episode it is probably best to come up with questions about the show so they will pay attention

It may also be a good idea to split the show up into scenes, so that students don't lose track of the plot and have a chance to ask questions, but this depends on the level of their English...
