I teach private English for small kids. My classes are very "showy" and parents often ask to videotape my lessons.
I generally refuse on the grounds that it alters the atmosphere of the class. I also don't like it for the same reason camcorders aren't allowed in the theater or cinema.
I make an exception when a student is quiting my school to relocate. There it is more of a memento.

I'd like to hear any thoughts on this topic.

As a professional photojournalist I know how exasperating and diverting a camera can be. THe classic phrase do not look at the camera
comes to mind.
Here is one technique, might work. Set aside one day or maybe two for parents to tape your class. This anticipates their efforts and also pre-empts them from interfering too much with your work.
Demand a copy! This becomes useful reference material for you to use
on what was working what was not. also years later it will be a hoot to see yourself slowly going mad. Also, the tapes become useful in later classes.

Just be certain to make them sign a release form, guarantee to provide a CD or DVD copy, and that you as the teacher hold the full copyright.

Should they have a problem complying with any or all of the above then please remind them that this is your job; your profession, not some sort of "school play."
