Post by JUDIT » Wed Jan 05, 2005 9:28 pm

Hi, I 'd like to attend a techer training course that focuses on new teaching methods such as e-learning , on line teaching etc... Has any of you attended a course which incorporated the above mentioned field? Or have you attended one( about 2 weeks long)that you would highly recomend( I atended the LCCI course and have several years of experience in general and Business English. I'd like to find a cours in Europe. Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Judit,

Hey e-learning/teaching esl students, sounds really interesting, I'd like to hear your ideas on that.

In the meantime, let me tell you what I'm doing and see if this will help you.

At the moment I have one student whom I teach over the phone for 30 minutes once a week, which is going very well as this particular student wanted to overcome her fear of speaking English over the phone.

The material I use I found online, which is top quality material, which requires no preparation on my part, is relevant material and graded from beginner to advanced etc plus much more.

What I do is forward her classwork, usually one or two days in advance of our lesson and we carry out the lesson over the phone, in the evening.

I based my idea on the very powerful and effective business coaching I received last year over the phone. After the initial one on one meeting, we designated a time we would talk over the phone and it worked extremely well.

I'm not quite sure how you would conduct an e-lesson, I would be quite interested to learn how you plan to do that.

I also discovered a fantastic book which teaches ESL teachers how to teach in a more unorthodox way to get the best out of your one on one students (if that's what you plan to do). You could learn all you need from this book in one day and start teaching, once you've researched the teaching material of course; you could be on your way within the week. The book only costs about £10.

This book makes it clear that you don't have to have a degree in teaching to be a good teacher, just a raw talent for reaching out to people, a desire to learn and a good command of the English language, written and spoken.

If you are interested in researching these two sites, I will be happy to forward them to you, just reply to this message or email me direct.

I hope this helps.
