I am an experienced ESL Teacher (2 years in Japan, 1 year in Mexico), however, I have recently returned to Australia to discover that it seems unlikely that I will find work teaching English here without formal qualifications (min. CELTA).
I am wondering if anyone knows of any institutes, in Brisbane, that would consider candidates based on their practical experience in the field rather than formal TESOL qualifications? I am university educated.
Any ideas or direction would be much appreciated!

You will find it is becoming increasingly difficult to teach EAL without a "Full" ESL qualification. DELTA is required in many countries now, CELTA and TEFL are now only recognised as an - introduction to teaching - course. It is becoming the norm, as you must have the qual in order to submit students for certain exams.kirra wrote:I am an experienced ESL Teacher (2 years in Japan, 1 year in Mexico), however, I have recently returned to Australia to discover that it seems unlikely that I will find work teaching English here without formal qualifications (min. All countries have their own system in place or are introducing them gradually. In the UK , new Government guidelines state that you would not be able to teach EAL with anything less than a CELTA module 2, or a DELTA plus an EAL subject specification. Degrees mean nothing, apart from Japan where it is a requirement (at present).
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for that - I am taking it all on board and trying to decide if it is worth pursuing work in an industry where casual employment and few (if any) benefits are the norm, yet you are required to be more and more qualified with each passing year .. Hmm ..
Cheers for that!
