Hello, I am volunteering at my church, teaching English to three Korean's--two can speak and read English quite well, and one mostly uses the other two to interpret.
There are three different classes offered (beginner, intermediate and advanced) but the two in my class are not quite ready to move up.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I have played hangman (with some success) and have been working on some simple things. I am not a teacher although I have had experience in directing sports camps for youths.
I enjoy working with people which is why I have volunteered and I do not want to give up. I am finding it extremely dificult and could use any ideas. Thanks
Volunteer Teacher looking for help

How about visiting the library and getting some workbooks that would direct you on your way. There is usually a section for ESL students and the books cover most topics that newcomers want to find out about. It might be fun to take them shopping or the the library or to the local school or to a restaurant and tape the people talking to them and write it out so they can see the conversations. They can do this with your help and it is fun and useful.
You may be able to find the Westcoast Reader at your public library, or maybe even get a subscription. Here's the link:

Students usually love it, and the teacher's notes (which you can find at the site) have lots of activities.
