Where to start?

Post by jori » Thu Nov 24, 2005 11:22 pm

Hello. I have been teaching English to Koreans for only five months, but I have developed the following sequence of lessons so that I will know where to start:
1. Adjectives
2. Sentence Pattern # 1: S - LV - PA. I give students ten questions that they will answer with this pattern.
3. Noun Phrases like "a beautiful flower"
4. Sentence Pattern # 2: S - LV - PN. The PN is a noun phrase.
5. Prepositions and prepositional phrases
6. Sentence Pattern # 3: S - AV (action verb) - PP (prepositional phrase)
7. Sentence Pattern # 4: S - AV - DO. The DO is a noun phrase.
8. Sentence Pattern # 5: S - AV - DO - PP
9 Complex Sentences: Simple Sentence - Conjunction - Simple Sentence, for example, Simple Sentence - because - Simple Sentence
10. Other lessons like articles, tenses and pronouns
Lessons one to nine takes me thirty hours because we talk a lot about the ideas in their patterned sentences. I hope this gives teachers an idea on where to start. I also hope experienced teachers comment on this system. Thank you.
