Hi everybody,
I am doing a study about task-based language computer-mediated interaction. I'm seeking adult ESL learners to participate in my pilot study to do certain designed language tasks online using any chatting program like MSN messenger or yahoo messenger. It's completely voluntarily. If you think that you have students who are interested in doing online language tasks, I would be very grateful if you can email me on ([email protected]). Here are some FAQs about my study.
Q: What is the study all about?
A: I’m basically interested in how English language learners achieve certain language tasks online
Q: Why would an ESL/EFL learner need to take part in this study?
A: If your students take part in it, they would learn new language and improve their communication abilities in a very encouraging and exciting atmosphere. The best thing about it is in fact they would be learning from each other. There are no lectures, they can do any task anytime they like as long as each agrees with his/her online partner, they can finish as many tasks as you like (the more the better obviously) and they can get my assistance any time while doing the tasks.
Q: How many tasks do you have?
A: I have 3 task types with 2 tasks per type; 6 tasks altogether.
Q: How long does it take to do each task?
A: Each task would take 30 to 40 minutes depending on your language proficiency and typing speed.
Q: Can ESL/EFL learners do the tasks alone or in pairs?
A: The design of the study requires the tasks to be achieved in pairs.
Q: How can ESL/EFL learners take part in the study?
A: If you are an ESL/EFL teacher and think you have some students (any number of pairs would do really) who can take part in this small-scale study, I would be grateful if you can please email me. I will inform you about the website where the tasks are and the simple procedures of doing the tasks.
I will highly appreciate any help with my study.
Thank you very much in advance.
Ali
