How to make the class more active?
I wonder how to make the class more active and make the lessons more impressive for the students, do you think the traditional teaching methods can be adopted nowadays?
In my opinion, Chinese students cannot accept the western teaching approaches so well at present, because they have no such environments to practise, and it's very hard for them to accept the free teaching class. Maybe we can put some part of it into our class, you know, the western teaching approaches are too free, and the students cannot accept so fast, maybe we can implement it step by step and most importantly we should teach them based on their actuality, right?

I always try to add fun, unusual, fast-paced activities to my lessons. I would recommend that you go to this page:

and find some interesting activities to add to your classes. You don't have to completely abandon your book or lesson, but you can use activities to get students practicing the language you have already taught them.

Start small with pairwork from their seats. Then, have them turn their chairs, then have them form groups, etc. Once they get used to it, then you can have them out of their seats. Usually, I don't have them standing until the 2nd week if they are especially reticent or are completely aborhent to physically moving around.

Thank you for your useful ideas but i cannot open your above web site, it's a pity. Maybe we can add one or two activities to the students and let them move their heads to apply what they learn, right? And the activity must be very insteresting and should inspire all students to join, it's a bit hard.

Let them bring things like food and tools in class to help them in presenting ideas. Also let them demonstrate their ideas like massage and handicraft. Your class will be more interesting if the students are active.

Do more than tell, explain.
Do more then explain, illustrate.
Do more than illustrate, demonstrate.
Do more than demonstrate, let other students perform.

Good idea!!!
