Has anyone administered the MELAB or the SLEP?

Post by amurray07 » Thu May 04, 2006 8:58 pm

hi, my name is annie and i am an undergrad student of the west coast of the US. I am doing some research on the MELAB and the SLEP and was wondering if anyone who had given one of these tests before would be willing to answer a few questions! (there's not too many, no need to fear :D )

thanks so much for your help,

annie

Would you mind giving the full names and authors? Or perhaps a quick explanation of what kind of test? One of them sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Sure!
The MELAB is the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery and it is used to assess advanced non-native english speaking students applying for admissions into canadian, british or american universities. it has been considered similar to the tofel. I do believe that it was put out by Michigan State's ELI program.
The SLEP is the Secondary Level English Proficiency Test that is used for a similar purpose: no measure non-native adult's listening and reading comprehension skills. It is put fourth by ETS. (the same people who do the TOFEL, the TOEIC, and other major tests.)

Thank you. Alas, I have no information on those two tests, however.
