You might want to buy the next level of Cutting Edge. Textbooks and workbooks have a definite individual style and you have to teach that to the students so they will understand what to do when and where. If they learn Cutting Edge Starter, they will know how to use those textbooks and workbooks. People feel comfortable doing what they know in structure and format because they have so much else to learn. Cutting Edge is a very different program and is "cutting edge" - uses the knowledge that we have gained from Linguistics, ESL theory and practice and is as up-to-date as a textbook can be - which means about 5 years behiind by the time it is developed, printed and distributed.

You can let the students know that this is not the be all and end all of textbooks - nothing is - so they can make suggestions for improvement which you can send to the publishers. Adult students love to do that.

Well, a long time since "speaking" to Sally Olsen et al !

A) I first taught adults first as a substitute teacher and was wonderful - first group of eleven and second more advanced group of thirteen !

B) 'have last week started teaching privately two groups in one morning - - ten each and am having a few problems already as raised on another thread 'teaching adults of differing abilities'. . . The first group are all beginners while secong group have 70% pretty good at English while others are COMPLETE beginners = not an easy one.

So gang, there you have it as follow up to posting from way back then . .
