I finish up my CELTA course around mid January and will be leaving Sunny England for a destination I've yet to make my mind up on.
Can anyone provide any kind of input as to a specific place that is best for new teachers.
I had thought (dreamed) about going to Shanghai. But after reading te copious amounts of teachers that have complained (school exaggerated, work hours were actually another 20 hours on top of what they advertised, appalling management, cultural barrier) that I thought I'd pick somewhere else.
I've thought about Indonesia as from what I've read students are motivated, eager and respectful. I also thought about Ecuador but my friend who is teaching there says the kids in Quito are crazy (he's been shot in the neck with a BB gun)
Any other destinations that would be suitable for a first time teacher (I'd like to teach where I can get my grouning as a teacher, focus almost solely on my teaching tecnique then after a year or two maybe consider a place where I would have to do a lot of classroom management

Safety matters
Excellent question and vivid warning about teaching in Quito.
From my perspective, safety matters most. As a result, teaching in many American inner cities, parts of Mexico and Central America remains problematic. Likewise, I would think twice before working in any area with armed rebels, terrorists, daily kidnappings, beheadings, etc.
Personally, I am looking into Spain, Italy, Japan, and Korea. Your first thought (Shanghai) also sounds sensible. Why not go where you dream of working?
