Easy Newspaper or Magazine Articles

Post by LaurieFox » Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:08 am

Hello,

I would like to find some easy newspaper or magazine articles that deal with issues interesting to adults. I've done a search online and come up with the Korea Times, Seoul Times and Topics magazine (I'm tyeaching in Korea) but I still find them a little too hard for my students. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,

Sometimes if you check Associated Press or Reuters the articles have been written in summary (which other worldwide newspapers use to generate their own stories). This can be more comfortable as occasionally the problem lies in the length of the article rather than weight of the words.

I recently wrote about using the news in my blog with some tips and links to sites that offer 'watered down' versions and did a posting on using the flight 1549 crash to review adverbs of sequence.

They're here:

I have used the pages from MSN News. The news coverage is fairly light. The English used is not high level, and articles are short.
They also use pictures a lot.

I used to use articles from Keep them Current with my intermediate/ advanced high school students. Also check VOA and BBC as they both have sections with adapted articles for ELLs.
