Hello:
I teach in Costa Rica and a local radio station has asked me to help them with an English teaching segment. They want to air a five minute segment twice a week with the goal of teaching conversational English. I am not sure where to begin on this. The students will obviously only be listening (they won´t have books, or handouts, or anything to look at, nor will they have interaction with the teacher). Has anyone else done something like this before or do you have any suggestions how to start putting this type of program together? Thanks.

Maybe you have to think of low beginners across all age groups; say how to geet or introduce people the English way.
I would add some spelling exercises and have listeners take down notes. Since they have no books, they should keep a kind of diary in which they enter their daily or weekly English rations. Perhaps you will need to spell the words in Spanish, and gradually switch to English only.
Just follow a textbook, but adapt it to the needs of oral lessons.
