My father always tells me that it is important to get knowledge even you are a mother, especially English learning. Our generation needs to compete with more people all over the world but not with who in our country,so we have to hold our time to get knowledge when we are younger and energetic. My father, a business man, went to cram school to learn English when he's 50; although it was a really good environment for him to learn, he could not remember as many words as we youth can. His teacher also needed to pay more attention to him because of his lower absorbing. My aunt, a retailer of cameras, watches English movies without reading caption every day just for a fluent communication with her foreign customers. Also, I think learning institution exclusively for adults are benefcial for them. Do you agree with me? Do you have any experience like my family in your life? Or any ways that give adults a further learning? :D

8) Hello~ It's so glad to read your message. I agree what you say and I think that your daddy is so nice coz he want to learn more althought he is already 50 years old. My father always said"OH, I want to learn English" But, she never do it. I have a question. How you cheer up your daddy to learn it?

Time flies~~My father also learned English when he's over forty for business reason. It was a hard time for him. He can only remember around ten vocabulary a week. But I do not think English is neccesary to learn. If you don't like it, just skip it. That's fine. Find your own talent and make it a profession. That is what counts! :D

I must admire your father’s act of learning English; especially he is fifty years old now. After all, everybody knows that we should never stop learning, but few can really do it. Taking my father as an example, he always says that he want to learn the usage of computer. The fist time I heard of he said so was 3 years ago. He still doesn’t know how to use computer right now. I hope that one day he will have the determination as your father did. :D

When people get older and older, the function of their brains is degrading, which means their memory doesn't last long and they are more liable to forget things. In this sense, maybe it's nonsense for them to keep learning because the more they learn, the more they forget. However, if we see learning as a kind of stimulation to their brains, it's in fact helping them have a stronger grasp of their life after work. My father used to learm Englsh in an adult learning institute called "Wallstreet Institute" 2 to 3 days in a week after work, and it really gave him extra motifs of digging out the books again. At that time, he would always discuss English with me when he had free time. Therefore, I agree with the idea of "live and learn" because learning revitalizes a person when he or she gets older.

yeah~~~I think "adult education" is really really essential. Like my Mom, she is quite interested in learning English. And she also went to the cram school after retired. She felt so great to study again and learn new things from different people!! I am also proud of her! Also, we can study and discuss with each other. I think it's also a fantastic way to improve family relationship!! Now, my Mom always learns English by herslf through magazines, radio, movies etc. And I will also keep encouraging her!!!! :D

I totally agree that one should never stop learning because the society is alwals changing, and in order to keep up with this fast pace situation, one should always improve one's knowledge.
English is a very uesful tool, so English learning is important. The main way my family improve English is to use English frequently, for example we would try our best to communicate with each other in English.
Learning a foriegn language isn't easy, especially for grownups. I think the most important step to get improved is to never let go any chance in facing the foreign language. We should face it not avoid it.

I carefully read the different opinions related to English learning at an advanced age. In my country we have a very nice proverb which may help interested people to succeed in whatsoever they may undertake: “Where there is a will, there is a way!”
In my personal case I learned to manage the computer at the age of 64, no problem was observed doing so. Actually I am so happy and do quiet a lot of thing with my Mac G4. (Photography, Movies, Internet etc.)
To learn languages may be very different. It’s not only a matter of “brain” it’s also very important to have a quick ear!

Your father is pretty a amazing! He must be still working very hard to improve his english skill. So it means that the authur also need to work hard as well. I can tell that the english is very important in the world. But the most importnat for this paragraph is that I admire your father is still studying very hard in english even when he is at the age of 50, so does your aunts. In contrast, we young guys have to study harder so that we will not let our parents disappoint because some older people really never stop learning.

Hey..I think your father is so cute. :P
People say that it is never too late to learn. And we all get a proof from your father. What I admire him most is that he may think that there is still so much to learn in the world though he is getting older. At the same time he may espect himself to become better and better all the time. It is a quite rare spirit to do something for we youth, not to say for the elders.
Moreover, what I learn most from your father is that people, young or old, should set up a goal in different steps of life and achieve. :P

I am really admiring your father’s thinking. We live in an ever changing time, if we don’t constantly expand our knowledge we will be behind the times. English is an important language; so many people are learning it and many people think it is difficult to learn. However, I think to improve our English ability has many ways as long as we practice often and don’t give up. For example, when we watch TV, try not to read the subtitles on the screen or read good books to enrich our knowledge. Above all, we should put what we have learned into practice in our daily life just like your father, he is a business man so he can learn some English which is related to Business. It would help him in his work. Good Luck!!
