Teaching large mixed level class - prep. for entrance exams

Post by Mineirosotan » Tue May 03, 2005 2:52 pm

Hello,
I've been asked to teach a class of 45 students. The students are at mixed ability levels, but generally at a low level. All of the students are preparing to take a university entrance examination in 6 months. The examination will present them with a text and questions about the text (both the text and questions are considerably above the current level of the students). The course is sponsored by the local government here in Brazil, and doesn't have much/any funding or support.
I would greatly appreciate any insights on how to teach this class.
THANKS in advance.

How many hours a week? Do you already have materials?

The class is 50min/week. And though I haven't been supplied texts, I have obtained appropriate texts from other similar, private courses.
