Texts for adult one-on-one?

Post by PeterP » Wed May 28, 2003 10:21 am

Hello, everybody-

I'm beginning a one-on-one class with an adult who is at the upper-intermediate level. He's a scientist, who has been working in an English-speaking environment for some years, but he's not had any formal English training in more than twenty years.

He wants to work through a textbook with me so that we can make some sort of organized progress on all parts of the language: the skills, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Do you have any suggestions for a textbook which we could use? If it was part of a graded series, that would be useful for future work with him.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I like the Cambridge prep book called focus on first certificate. It is challenging, and fairly interesting.

Hi, the best I have found for that type of student is at

and the best game is at

http://eslgames.com/wordup/

With those two I have every student older than 12 covered, they are GREAT tools ; )
