Lexical Notebooks

I did a CELTA course and the trainer was very big on using a lexical notebook but we didn't get much time to discuss actually how to go about compiling one.

The ones I have tried have been muddled at best and its not always clear where how to arrange the notebook. I'm interested in getting my students to start using them and also so I can study Japanese for myself.

Can anyone give me any clear advice on how to put one together or point me in the right direction

Thanks

Do a search here on Dave's for 'Wordsurfing', for a start.

I just completed the DELTA certificate. Funny thing, they were pretty big on lexical notebooks too. In fact, I did one of my assignments on The Lexical Approach.

You will find learning training handouts for collocating words and keeping lexical notebooks in the back of the teacher's book for Cutting Edge Upper-Intermediate. I think it's the first photocopyable handout back there. I actually modified it a bit for my own students.
