Hi all

I am desperately trying to find a book dedicated to phrasal verbs which i can use in the classroom. I'm looking for a book that sorts them by TOPIC (rather than prep or verb)

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated

If you're looking to classify your phrasal verbs by topic it might be more fun to gradually build up your own lists. You can use index cards; or maybe begin with a pack of old envelopes with the topic written on them, and just drop in verbs as they occur to you: before you know it they'll be coming thick and fast.

If you can get books from the UK or Australasia (I don't know if it's available in the US or Canada) the Collins Cobuild English Grammar has eight pages of phrasal verbs (pp.162-170) with notes on their use. I haven't counted them, but there are hundreds

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about my last post, and realise that the Collins Cobuild English Grammar list might not be the best help to sharmi. It does tabulate a couple of hundred phrasal verbs, but gives only a few examples of the use of each group. If sharmi's first language is English, that won't be a problem; otherwise, a book with plenty of specimen sentences would be better.
