effective method in teaching adults

Awareness of the advantages which adult students have , i think , it is very important in teaching. Did anybody here ever attempt to teach English by comparing the distinctions and similarities between their native language? could you introduce that in detail?

You can compare the following:
1. whether the subject of the sentence is stated or not.
2. whether the verb usually follows the subject.
3. how prepositional phrases are constructed.
4. personal pronouns.
5. whether the articles the, a and an exist in their language.
6. expression of past, present and future action.
7. common expressions like hello and thank you.
