Preparing a Conversation Lesson

Im trying to prepare a lesson surrounded on just conversation because I have no other information on these students (i.e-what they have learned, etc) I've no book to go from, so I just have to wing it.
And Im getting myself all confused because for some reason I feel that I need to have some main point/focus of the lesson based on grammar. To get the students to use a certain aspect of grammar like say past simple, vs past continous during the conversation.
Does there have to be a point/focus, in regards to grammar, during a conversation based lesson. Or is the idea just to get the to talk in English and correct errors when need be?
Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
