Hi there, all!
I'm trying to compile an international collection of false friends with English.
I already have a whole bunch of German examples from a German-speaking friend of mine, but would appreciate input from other teachers from all over the world.
Do me a favour - sit down and write me a list of the worst examples you hear in your classrooms. If possible, can you put them into 3 columns, namely Original word, False friend and foreign translation, Correct English word.
You can post here or send to [email protected]
That would really be fantastic!
Thanks, y'all!!
Trixie

Please, please, please!!

I know it might be a bit of hassle to type in a whole list of flase friends, but you can post a link, if you like.
I'm especially interested in any false friends between English and Asian languages like Korean, Mandarin and Japanese.

Have you tried Wikipedia?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_friends

There were also some lists for various languages (not that exhaustive, though) in the 1995 Cambridge International Dictionary of English.
