Greetings to all,
I'm teaching an advanced ESL class to mostly native speakers of English and we' ve worked on a lot of things. Every semester, they have to present an individual project. This semester, I would like them to read a book and talk about it to the class. Since this is my first year of teaching and I'm not the world's biggest reader, I would like to have alist of recommended reading for my students. They are about 12-13 years old and quite mature. Does anyone have a site or a book that would contain an extensive list of books? I already have a few books in mind but some authors' names would be appreciated also. Canadian books would be a plus.

don't know the url, but go to the American Library Association's site and look for their School Library Association link. They are just about the seminal point for such thing.

I am an ESL teacher in Costa Rica. I have some intermediate and advanced students that can read simple stories. However, I am having trouble finding worthy, simple, and interesting pieces for them. I used a few fables once, but does anyone know about internet sites that have good material. Another problem is that I live in a small town, and don´t have access to English materials at the library. Please help!!!!

www.eastoftheweb.com has a lot of short stories. There's everything and anything there, so you will have to be sure to preview them.

I would start with a list of books that native speakers in the same age group would want to read. I work at an elementary/ middle school in the US and Harry Potter, of course, is popular. There's always Little Women, Charlote's Web, Anne of Green Gables, The Chronicals of Narnia, whatever is in your library.

Try "I heard the owl call my name" by Margaret Craven.
