Using Literature to teach Language

Post by lalitadeb » Sat Mar 27, 2004 10:15 am

I'm a teacher trainer in Beira, Mozambique, and one of my students is writing a dissertation entitled "How to use Literature to teach English Language in Mozambican secondary schools".

I'd be most greatful for any pointers in the form of online material. We have very few books but the students have a little, limited, access to the internet, when they can pay for it! I'd like to know of any sites / articles / books (!!) that can be accessed on-line for information on the above topic. If any of you good people have something on the topic, do you think you could share it?

It might not be on the topic exactly, but Project Gutenberg has a huge online collection of literature in the public domain. Maybe that would help?

Sorry for coming in so late but I thought I'd pass this on for what it's worth...

You might try visiting Teaching Resources in the 'Short Stories' section on East of the Web at http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/teacher.html. To be honest, I haven't used this myself -- I used this site for the first time this term to have my class select short stories and write brief papers on them. But it's worth a try. If nothing else, you could post something on their forum -- surely someone there would have suggestions for you.

Good luck with the dissertation.

Thanks, Irish, thanks Crowe,
Project Guttenburg has quite a lot of stuff, and I posted a message in shortstories. Waiting for a reply.
Still looking!
Thanks again,
Lalita
