Endorsing Authors......

For those of us who like to read, and I am a bookworm, not just any author will do. The same applies, in concept, to our students. One cannot expect one's students to accept any suggestion you can offer to them. The books are not readily available and by the time you have them ordered by your school you may be teaching in another school, another language or at least a different zipcode.

Similarly unless you have a choice in determining the text for the course it is very unlikely that you will be having tea with Auden, Austen, Banks, Barthes, Barthelme etal anytime soon....

...Which is why the EFL teacher needs to adopt an extensive reading program. See Richard Day and Julian Bamford's seminal book for advice on how to do it.
