Transworld CTESOL- recommendations/experiences with them

Post by sbbarker11 » Thu Apr 06, 2006 6:44 pm

Hello and thankyou,

I was interested in taking the CTESOL here in SF with "Transworld". If someone here has had prior experience, has taken the "Transworld" program or who can offer me some valuable advice, please let me know.

Whether your experience with Transworld was good or bad, please let me know. What might they do well? What might they not do so well in? Does this program give you actual in class teacher training to ESL or foreign students? How are the teachers who teach the class?

Overall, *would you recommend them* and are does this program put you in a good position to become a new teacher of English in a foreign country?

I've set my sights on taking a 4 week full time program, and only in the SF CA area.

Once again, thankyou very much for any valuable advice you might be able to part with.

HERE is there website:

Hi there, I took the Transworld TEFL certification course 10 years ago. I'm not sure how much it's changed since then, but I thought it was a great program. I was really impressed with all of the trainers. They all have at least a Master's degree + quite a bit of experience, and they made the classes really interesting and fun. I believe there are still a couple of trainers there that I had 10 years ago.

I didn't end up working abroad (switched to another career), but have tutored ESL in the US and am now working on a degree in education, and I believe that Transworld does prepare you well for teaching or tutoring. We did get to teach several classes to various levels of students from beginning to advanced, which were observed and critiqued by the trainers. I thought we got quite a bit of good, practical knowledge and experience.

Also, they seem to be (or were at the time) useful for finding jobs - they have a lot of contacts with schools. I had casually mentioned to them that I was thinking about teaching in Mexico, and a few days after the course they sent me a job offer in Oaxaca (I was kicking myself later for not taking it, but that's another story).

Anyway, it was a long time ago, but I had a great experience with Transworld and found everyone there to be very professional and genuinely good people, and the training was quite thorough and practical. Like I said, a few of the trainers from then are still around, so hopefully the school is still that way.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you!
