Please beware. I was offered work to do proof reading for a Magazine SIMILAR TO "IDEAS" in CN. I was promised a sum of money for 3 parts of proofing and 3 days to do it. They sent me 1 part and the other 2 parts with 12 hours left on the deadline. I got it done though. Mostly because parts two and three were near perfect. The first part was an absolute disaster. No capitals. No punctuation. No verbs. No nouns. Everything in the wrong place when it did exist ... but, hey, no problem right ... that's my job. So, I corrected what needed to be corrected. Then the nightmare starts. They call me back and tell me that I shouldn't have "changed the writters style" for part 1. I said, "there was no style, you couldn't understand what they were trying to say". Next they tell me, because I made very few changes to the other two parts, that I should accept a lower amount of pay. So, I say, "the pay was for 3 parts by a deadline, I did that. Should I have corrected errors that weren't there for parts 2 and 3, and left the (quote) writters style alone in part 1!" Everyone please, help me out here, am I way off base here and just don't see it (I am seeking outside opinions in this scenario). Am I being obtuse here? I have our e-mail conversation for private viewing if you want to view the dialogue to insure the version of the story I gave here is correct. Please HELP. Thanks.

It sounds like you have a legal issue here, and I doubt we will be able to assist you. I suppose it depends on whether the agreement is binding in the eyes of the law. Certainly it seems you should be paid properly, but I imagine you may have to threaten to take them to court.
