Reading and Writing Course

Post by SteveinBKK » Tue Oct 19, 2004 4:31 am

Hello forum,
I apologize if this is being posted in the wrong section. I am currently teaching a group of 9th graders an intensive English reading and writing course (EFL) and I'm at a lost for what to teach. This is my first time teaching this course (this year). We're now in the second semester; the first semester was using the coursebook (a reading textbook), doing story writing, and trying to do five paragraph essay writing (supporting your opinion type). The essay writing portion did not go well. With consideration to the level (about pre-intermediate) and age (around 14 years old), what have others teachers taught? I have my own ideas for a curriculum (text based-grammar focused lessons or teaching different writing styles like letters and newspaper ads), but I would love to hear from all of you. Any advice or previous experiences with this type of course would greatly be appreciated! Thanks for your time and effort in advance.
