Desperate.

What's yours and, more to the point, why?

Why does desperate look wrong? From 'esperar' to hope.

I have a problem with some double consonants, such as "misspelling"; presumably because I initially misparse the first part as "miss-"

I do have to think about espérer and esperar to spell desperate correctly. Odd.

Living in Spain even odder. I find etymology solves nearly all spelling mistakes, though chikungungya (which everybody is going down with right here) is a b-a-s-t-a-r-d.

edit: Unbeeped the *beep*
