South Pacific Island teaching

Greetings! I am new to the forum. I find myself teaching a second grade classroom in an English Immersion situation.

Anyone have any insight, experience or advice on working with an L1 group that is 1. oral not written, 2. bereft of anthing not on a 1/4 mile wide coral reef top atoll?

I am working for a school who has been stuck recruiting newly graduated teachers. It is not a bad school : www. majurocooperativeschool.org , they just need some specialization of EFL/ESL materials to help their elementary school staff along.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting to see your message, as I just saw the school was posting positions and I'm looking for one. Here are some links that may help the staff. I would use a lot of games and language using the entire body, not just boring worksheets, etc.

Puppets/drama/stories are fantastic, too. Get the kids engaged in the simple stories. That will help with language. And, it's not too late for some good dress up!

Have you tried the Activities and Games forum, or Intensive English Programs forum, to name but two of those available (via the index, http://forums.eslcafe.com/teacher/ )? (I mean, this is the AL forum, and although it looks more active and therefore inviting, anyone caught waving a puppet for long will soon have their fingers bitten off by the grammarians circling the liferaft).
