Learning comity

I've prattled on at times about Dogme; woodcutter has been banging on about "the most efficient method" a lot; and recently we've all been thinking about "Being happy rather than worrying".

I thought a book by Guy Aston (with the same title as this thread) might have interesting implications for the language we use/teach with, and/or expect the learners to use (perhaps these should be closer to being the same thing than we realize, that is, together a "methodology").

Not having read the book, I can't be sure what exact language and/or methodology he recommends, but, as I say, the implications are there (to me).

Just thought I'd mention that quite a few references are made to Aston's book in the closing chapter (on syllabus design) in M.McCarthy & R.Carter's more widely available Language as Discourse: Perpspectives for Language Teaching (Longman 1994). I'll try to get around to posting something about it (once I've finished some Chinese learning materials I've been slaving over!).
