You are right! That face thing is very important in Chinese culture, especially in mainland China. But the Chinese government hide the information about SARS not just because of face. People in mainland China has been fooled for half a century. The Chinese Communist Party has its own way to handle this situation, that is, Doing much more propaganda than taking any actions. However, you are a foreigner in China and your safety should be the first priority of the government. Maybe they don't really care how many Chinsese would die from this disease but they do care about your life.

Thanks for your contribution to China. If there are more people like you willing to teach in China, things will be much better after a few decades.

Wow that is pretty scary what you said about Shenzhen Polytechnic - the death of the teacher I mean! Besides this, what is the school like? And how does it treat it's foreign teachers?
