Edit my grammar errors

Post by bmo » Tue Feb 24, 2004 7:06 am

Dear teachers,

I tried to edit someone else's writings on the Student's side and hope some moderators would come around to edit his and mine but no one came around. Could one of you help? Thanks. BMO

I am new myself, trying this edit and hoping moderators will correct mine as well so we can all learn. Thanks.

" I am in trouble. How can I speak English well? I think my problems are that I am always confused, and that I am not in an environment where I can practice the language. Certainly, I am still at the same level without any improvement. Needless to say I am very disappointed and at times I feel helpless.

Although I have tried watching movies, readings and listening to music, all I understood are some key words, not an entire story, so my efforts are not helping either. In addition, I have used "teaching aids" to help me remember words, phrases, and grammar rules so I could use them later in speeches, but I forgot them very fast. I am determined but I don't have good study skills. I just don't read well.

What can I do? Could someone suggest or recommand something such that someday I can speak English well, without having to go abroad to study? I hope someone can help or make corrections of my writings. "

I see that you are in the USA, bmo. Is it possible for you to advertise at the local language school to do an exchange of your own language for English? There are often native English teachers who might like to learn or practice a new language and in return give English classes for free.

I thought that was the text another student had written that bmo was trying to correct.

I would only add the following two alterations: I would change "all I understood are some key words" to "all I understood were some key words" or "all I understand are some key words" to avoid having one verb in the past and the other in the present; and I would "make corrections to my writings. " and not "of".

Thanks to all of you. Yes, I edited someone else's work. Can't believe it, but I have been in the U.S. for 40 years and still can't get it right. Last corrections are good. English is hard, but you won't agree if I say it is much, much, harder than Chinese.

Thanks again.
