Hi All,
Has anyone gone through an MA TESOL program that they would recommend?

I was enrolled in an MA TESOL program here in the States, but was very disappointed and withdrew. I still want to pursue the degree, but I also want to be in a program that will actually make me a better teacher.

I'm looking for a program that is:
-focused on application, not theory
-focused on working internationally, not domestically
-attracts experienced EFL teachers
-has well regarded professors

I've been looking at SIT, but apart from that program I'm not having much luck. (I would love to hear from some recent SIT grads!)

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

DeSales University MA TESOL program

DeSales University in Pennsylvania. Currently I am about 90% finished my degree and I would totally recommend the program. Although it is pricey (what grad school program isn`t?), all the professors are either current ESL teachers or have been in the past. Because the school is small, the support from professors and staff is amazing. Everyone there wants you to succeed in the TESOL field whether it is teaching English in Japan or teaching in the United States. As for the classes, most of the them require some sort of field work where you are in the classroom where you apply theory to practice. Many of the classes are hybrid online classes which only requires attendance in class once every two weeks--this is super convenient for teachers with busy schedules. If you are abroad, however, you will not be able to complete your degree because only some classes are completely online classes. Overall, I think it is a good program with great professors that teach relevant and useful theory and teaching methods. Good luck on your choice, feel free to email me if you have additional questions.

I graduated from the School for International Training with an MAT in 1982. It is an excellent program. It's a great mixture of practical and theoretical. It's had a huge influence on me as an ESL instructor, program coordinator and published author of 9 textbooks. I know for a fact that I've been hired for positions earlier in my career based on the fact that I was an SIT grad.
