Dear Juan,

I agree, as long as there is no personal matter.

I hope to know more about the different use between Simple Past and Present Perfect. OK? Can the remoteness theory of any help?

Of course you may link the subject to any other tense.

Sorry I have to use large font, so that I can see clear the preview. But you may use any size. I have to copy to Mircrosoft Word, anyway. Of course I still can see small fonts, but I'll get dizziness within a few minutes.

In this thread, with respect, I would like to talk to anyone as long as no personal matter is involved.

But Xui, it's not personal. You want to discuss the present perfect but you put have instead of has. It's a bad start.

I don't believe this. If I did make the mistake, can't you ignore for a while? Moreover, at least you tell me WHERE did I say that, right? I looked over and I don't know what you are referring to. Is this a good omen to start?

I checked and checked and checked, where is the "has"?

Try out this idea. Find some flaws in this (there are lots):

All the numbers and information that can be used in the present perfect may need to be changed. Except starting dates. So all these following examples may need future modifying , which wouldn't be true if they were Past Simple :

I've been married three times

I've lived here for (the past) three years

I've never seen the end of Titanic

The Olympic Games have been celebrated n times.

I admit it's pretty basic but students can use it.

You (have) put "Sarn Rich have". You should (have) put "has" . Not the other way round!

Juan,

As you cannot accept any mistakes in my typing English (I have a bad eyesight), and I cannot follow your type of discussion. Shall we call it off?

I have now started the thread, but where did I use the HAS??? I still want to know.

Sincerely yours,

Xui

I want to make a comment on this, which shall be the reason to use Present Perfect in your examples:

But I can't. It is beyond my comprehension. I give up. With respect, you win. I admit I fail, seriously. It is definitely not your fault. It is because I have a low ability of understanding.

Good luck,

Xui

Shun, I found what JTT is referring to in...oh, under 1 minute.

1) Where did you first mention Sarn Rich (recently)? Yup, that's right, on your "How far have we got with the Present Perfect?" thread. Remember?

2) Now we know which thread, the question is, where, exactly, is the mistake (one among many) that JTT singled out (as an example)?

To save you ruining your eyes, it is in your fourth post, on the first page of the aforementioned thread.

Part of the reason that it is hard to find, Shun, is because you have been writing more or less non-stop on half a dozen threads in the past few days, and you are adding to the potential for confusion by quoting from and across those threads. Please stop doing this! You too (especially!) could say where YOU are quoting from!

As it is, I (and others) are needing to jump back and forth between threads...who knows, we might just give up soon...if it weren't such fun seeing you get your knickers in a right old twist! :D

For everyone's information, JTT's "I'm expected to debate..." is (unsurprisingly) also from the "How far have we got...?" thread.

Shun, if you ever need a biographer, maybe I am just the man for the job.

Oh, I also find it very revealing (regarding your level of English) that when JTT says, "...you put have instead of has", you reply, "I checked and checked and checked, where is the "has"?"!?!?! :?

Hence JTT's exasperated: "You (have) put "Sarn Rich have". You should (have) put "has" . Not the other way round!"
