Apolgies if I'm the last person on earth to find out about this nonsense. For all I know it has been mentioned before .

Does anybody really agree with Mr Keegan?

BTW Brits, did you know that Kevin Keegan was now a high-school journalism teacher?

A lot has been said about agreement on the forum recently - it's a highly flexible thing. Clearly, in this case, the fact that the original noun phrase has a name in it makes the construction run smoothly across our ears, and therefore we would usually judge it correct. Therefore, in a properly descriptive grammar, the "rule" that Mr.Keegan loves must be amended to allow for this.
