Can you please tell me if "the contents of a book" is followed by a verb in the plural or singular? What about "the contents of a bottle"?

'Contents' is usually plural. As a plural non-count noun it is an exception to the norm in English.

So does that mean that "The contents of an English book IS at the beginning of ..." and "The contents of the bottle IS unknown" ?
