"gave" in Yaz's song Only You? What does it mean?

Sung by the group Yaz or Yazoo.

Looking from a window above, it's like a story of love
Can you hear me
Came back only yesterday I'm moving further away
Want you near me

All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you

--------------------

Sometimes put in missheard lyrics sites as "All I needed was the love you gay"

What does 'gave' mean here?
Thanks

"give"/"gave" by itself doesn't mean much. Basically, if you love somebody, you give them your love.

I assumed "All I needed was -TO- love you gave" while I cut and pasted "THE" from the lyrics site, which made 'gave' incomprehensible in my version.

Now it makes sense.
Thanks
